February 1 | Launch of Our Music Institute

01.14.2019

Music is unique in that it has the power to connect us and bring a sense of community while at the same time giving us an outlet to express and process our most personal emotions and deepest thoughts. My name is Mike Poupko and I’ve been playing music professionally and sharing my knowledge with students for the past 20 years. Music has taken me around the world and given me truly amazing and inspiring experiences that I’m both honored and humbled to have been part of. But oftentimes the furthest it’s taken me is deep within. During this time I’ve seen a lot of changes in the way music is learned and taught but, at the end of the day, I believe that in 2019 we’re still looking to achieve the same things that have always made music such a vital part of our lives: self expression and community; a perfectly balanced yin yang relationship between going deep within in yourself while at the same time connecting with others in a meaningful manifestation. In music, the whole has the potential to be vastly greater than the sum of the parts: a spiritually reflective and communal experience.

With these ideas embedded in the fabric of my intentions, on February 1st I’m launching my new project, Our Music Institute (LoveOurMusic.com). OMI is a music school providing top notch music lessons, classes and live music for events for everyone from babies to baby boomers. As a professional musician and music teacher for the past 20 years, I’ve had the privilege and honor of working and connecting with some of the area’s top music professionals. For OMI, we’ve assembled an amazing team of instructors and performers as part of our little community on the North Shore. Our mission is simple: "Our Music, Our Community, Our Education." It’s not our goal to serve the community; it’s our goal to be part of it. Join us for our open house on Friday, Feb 1 from 6-8:30pm. Wine, snacks and live music will be provided. OMI is located at 400 Central Ave., Northfield, IL 60093.
