EP DEBUT: First Times & New Beginnings Ahead For Two Sets Of Eyes

11.22.2017

Hi there! Evan Opitz here with my blog-posting debut.

As a passionate participant in fine food and beverages all around Chicago, I was beyond thrilled when asked to write a guest contribution to Billy Dec’s blog. As I sit here at Reno in Logan Square eating a Reuben and downing (quite rapidly) some Dark Matter coffee, I am basking in this short moment of peace and rest between the wildness of my many different musical projects. These include Two Sets of Eyes, The Phantom Broadcast, Fiona Grey, Anti/Beyond, and Rebecca Rego & The Trainmen (amongst many more).

I’d like to tell you about my group Two Sets of Eyes.

Although we have only been writing together for about a year now, Joel Janchenko (drums, vocals) and I have been working together on and off for about 4 years in many different musical conduits; having played in jazz clubs, coffee shops, pizza parlors, and quite a few living rooms.

From very early on we bonded through a mutual desire to create multi-faceted tunes that people can dance to. We’d spend full days listening to the sounds of Tera Melos, Father John Misty, Minus The Bear, and Bad Bad Not Good and composing/jamming on our favorite ideas. Little did we know that that process would soon reveal itself as our own take on what Chicago sounds like! At long last, our EP will be available on 11/25 in all digital platforms as well as a limited run of 50 hand-numbered CDs with full artwork. It features Chicago artists Mike Racky on pedal steel and hip-hop artist/producer Bardo taking the helm on vocals and lyrics.

As Two Sets of Eyes grows, we have a ton of great things on the horizon. Search for us @twosetsofeyes to share in our excitement! Two Sets of Eyes will celebrate our EP release at Quenchers this Saturday, Nov 25!
